健康和幸福常常紧密相连, but many factors that contribute to this outcome are outside an individual’s control such as genetic factors, 环境影响, 以及社会决定因素. This course will review social determinants of health and health inequities in the context of Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) which includes 85% of the world’s population. Students will explore how these social determinants impact orphans and vulnerable children in Western Kenya while also learning what these developing nations can teach us. 另外, students will explore the rich history and culture of Kenya by meeting Kenyans in their homes, experiencing its cities and even seeing “big game” during a safari in the famed Maasai Mara Game Preserve.
